MLS Offseason Moves

Some MLS preseason action? Sure, we’ll take that right now.

Inter Miami lost 3-0 to Peruvian club Allianz Lima. Messi had a nasty ankle-breaking move that you have to watch.

Houston Dynamo’s Jack McGlynn scored one of his signature left footed outside the box curler’s against Louisville City SC.

Now, onto some moves…

The LA Galaxy finalized a deal to sign Joao Klauss from St. Louis City SC. It will be a cash trade for around $2.375M. Klauss will take the DP spot vacated by Riqui Puig’s injury. This Galaxy team has enough firepower to be a contender in the West even without Puig.

Orlando City SC has agreed to sell USMNT right back Alex Freeman to Villarreal for $4M plus $3M in add-ons plus a sell-on percentage. Rather than leaving for free after this season for free, Orlando gives the player what he wants and gets compensated for it. It’s the best move for both sides. It’s a big challenge for Freeman before the World Cup, but it’s a move he’s wanted to make. He’ll join former MLS player Tani Oluwaseyi in Spain.

FC Dallas is close to losing their starting goalkeeper, Maarten Paes, to Ajax. He’ll return to the Netherlands with the Dutch giants.

The New York Red Bulls are close to signing USMNT goalkeeper Ethan Horvath from Cardiff City. Horvath would replace Carlos Coronel, who departed for Sao Paolo. I’m cautiously optimistic about this Red Bulls team. They have some fun pieces, and I’m excited to see what Michael Bradley can do with them.

Real Salt Lake is finalizing a deal to sign Morgan Guilavogui from RC Lens for around $5M. RSL is reportedly looking to move on from DP attacker Giogo Goncalves, and Morgan looks to be a replacement. The striker will be a designated player. Here’s the 7 goals he scored last year for St. Pauli. Salt Lake is also set to sign Dutch central midfielder Stijn Spierings from Brondby.

NYCFC is finalizing a deal to sign Mali international forward Moussa Sylla from Schalke. The 26-year-old will solve a big need at striker since Alonso Martinez is set to miss most of the season. He scored 16 goals in the German second tier last year. He’ll be a designated player for New York. Here’s Sylla’s highlight film.

Here’s a bit of what you’re missing:

  • A gorgeous goal from a 16-year-old USYNT player for Borussia Dortmund

  • Ricardo Pepi’s looming move to an English Premier League side

  • Goals from Pat Agyemang, Chris Richards, and Weston McKennie

  • Big changes to the MLS transfer window

  • Promotion/Relegation in USL

  • An interesting tweet from Denis Bouanga
