MLS Updates
It was a tough weekend without MLS. Thankfully, our USMNT made us proud… oh wait, never mind. Alas, some MLS updates to bridge you to the weekend.
St. Louis City SC’s talented winger Celio Pompeu suffered a non-contact ACL injury in training last week and will be sidelined for an extended period of time. Brutal. This club has had an alarming number of non-contact injuries.
The Colorado Rapids have traded for Seattle Sounders winger Georgi Minoungou in exchange for $2M in GAM. The 23-year-old is under a cap-friendly contract through 2029 and wasn’t getting enough playing time in Seattle’s attack.
FC Dallas made a big move for former Portland Timbers attacker Santi Moreno. They’ve acquired him on loan from Fluminense for the rest of the season. The 25-year-old is very talented but has brought his fair share of drama and headaches to locker rooms in the past. He’ll be a DP in Dallas.
Tom Bogert reported that both LA Galaxy and Inter Miami will be serious suitors for Brazilian international midfielder Casemiro once his contract expires with Manchester United this summer. There will be competition to sign him from clubs around Europe and Saudi Arabia, but the belief is that he’ll be open to exploring a move stateside.
Inter Miami will play its inaugural match at its new stadium this Saturday when they host Austin FC. The stadium will be called Nu Stadium and will have a section of the stands named after Messi.
